The National Animal Poison-Control Center (NAPCC), administered by the American Association for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, is available for telephone consultations in cases of poisoning emergency.  There is a charge for this service.  If you wish to charge the consultation fee to a major credit card, call (800) 548.2423.  If you don’t have a major credit card, call (900) 680-0000, and the fee will be charged to your phone bill.

Almost every major city has a human poison-control center whose services are free, paid for by your tax dollars, and they often have cat and dog information as well.  They can tell you if something is dangerous for your pet or if it’s harmless, so you’ll know whether a trip to the vet is needed or not.
